Cambodia Gambling Dens

[ English ]

There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where gambling den wagering is not permitted. Eight casinos are situated in a relatively tiny space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a prime area, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing capital gained from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of controls constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; although, funding sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 17:00, and although visas are for all intents and purposes needed to pass, there are methods around this, as is true of most border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored ship gambling den, features 150 slots and 60 gaming tables. The Naga casino is open all day and night with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are 150 slot machine games and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slots and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and 96 table games, including 87 punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international vacation and hotel building that features numerous amenities aside from the casino, which contains ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 one armed bandits and 88 table games.
